Sunday reading for January 19, 2014:

1. Deloitte’s Josh Bersin has a great article up on Deloitte University Press making the case for why it’s imperative that companies make a substantial investment in HR analytics. This is one of the best articles I’ve read in weeks. Packed with powerful anecdotes and compellingly written, the endnotes alone are worth the price of admission (free). What are you waiting for? Check this one out here.

2. Would you consider a candidate for a role if they’ve at some point held a job for less than six months? What about two jobs? Three? HR Consultant Sharlyn Lauby asks us to consider the circumstances under which we would grant a candidate a “job mulligan” – that being the chance to have at some point taken a job and (upon immediately recognizing taking it was a huge mistake) jumping ship. Everyone makes mistakes… but is taking on a new role without doing due diligence on the opportunity an unforgivable sin? Read Lauby’s full post here and then share your opinion via the included poll.

3. Linkedin Marketing Manager Mckenzie Lock has a great post up on Linkedin’s talent blog describing how to write the perfect job description. In addition to the article, there’s a great ebook included that deep dives into the topic as well, so check both out here.

As always, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
